Letter From The Captain

My commitment to providing the best service available to the contract program has not changed. I expect quality service and community commitment from the Deputies assigned to work in your contracts. If that does not occur, or you have a problem, please contract us and give us the opportunity to address your issue(s). The contract Sergeant, Sergeant Ligurori, will address your needs and help work through your problems. I expect the Deputies to stay in their contract, provide traffic enforcement, and be highly visible. The most important skill in the contract program is good communication, and because of the contractual agreement with the subdivision, our line of communication must start, and primarily be, with the security coordinator. We experience problems when outside organizations, such as the Management Company of the subdivision, attempts to intercede in the process and by-pass the security coordinator as the established line of communication. In the past two months I have had several of these type situations arise.

Should your subdivision Management Company fall into this category, please advise them that when they contact the Sheriff's Department, we will listen to their concerns, but will ultimately refer them to the security coordinator. The interest these Management Companies takes in their business ventures is admirable, but Sheriff's Department's goal is maintaining the integrity and quality of our service to your subdivision. This goal cannot be effectively accomplished with well-intentioned interference.

There will be times when you might need to adjust the hours, or days off, of the Deputy(s) assigned to your contract. If you need to make adjustments, please contact Sergeant Liguori and work through him to accomplish your changes. It is important to let everyone know of the change before it occurs so we can make the appropriate documentation in our paperwork, particularly payroll, and ensure it is accurate and legal.

The BARS unit in District 1 is finally becoming a reality, Sergeant Teed will be supervising the unit and it will consist of nine (9) Deputies. The unit will be temporarily located at the NAM building, but will permanently be assigned to the new Willowood substation when it is completed. I am excited and looking forward to getting the unit operational. It took a lot of effort and cooperation to get the unit. The first Northwest Security Coordinators Association meeting I attended in October of 2000, I stated that our goal was to get a BARS unit for District 1. Since that time, I have received copious amounts of support and help from everyone involved with the Northwest Security Coordinators Association. It has been almost 2 years since that meeting, but we have reached our goal through teamwork. The Sheriff's Department thanks you for your time and efforts, particularly Dora, Paulann, Cindy, Kay, and Edie. However, we also need to drop a line to Commissioner Eversole and thank him for his continued support. Commissioner Eversole played a vital role in ensuring we got the unit, and with his support, Sheriff Thomas was able to provide the District 1 residents with another awesome crime fighting tool. Thank you and see you at the next meeting.

Captain Terry Enloe
