 Child Safety
According to the Texas Department of Health, Safe Rider's Program, every year hundreds of children are killed or injured from being slammed against dashboards and windshields. This often occurs when a collision is avoided by a sudden stop or swerve. Properly securing children in child passenger safety seats is the easiest and the most effective protection.

Texas Law requires children under 2 years of age must be in an approved safety seat. Between the ages of 2-4, the child must be in a safety seat or a seat belt.

Statistics now seem to indicate that children are safest when riding in the back seat of car. Infant seats, convertible seats, booster seats and special needs seats are available. An approved child safety seat is a safety seat manufactured after January 1, 1981, and has a federal label certifying it meets Federal 213 safety standards.

Questions, call the Texas Department of Health at 1-800-252-8255.

Did you Know ?

Subdivision Stop Sign Litter can be stopped. There is nothing worse than driving down a subdivision street and seeing the street signs littered with lost cat or dog, garage sale, found cat or dog signs.

This law usually helps the civic or homeowner's association when it comes to "cleaning" up this type of visual pollution and is enforced by the Harris County Commissioners under article 2372cc., "signs on public road right-of-way in counties over 1,700,000, Section A, state a person may not place a sign on a public road right of way unless the placement is authorized by state law.

Sec.3. A person commits an offense if the person places a sign in violation of Section 2 of this Act. An offense under section is a Class C. misdemeanor.

This type of offense is handled by the Civic Association calling their County Commissioner and asking them to check your subdivision for these unwanted signs. The County Commissioner usually has a designated person who has specific duties to enforce certain ordinances as set down by the Commissioner. Call your Commissioner for the exact details on how to curtail these unwanted signs.

Help Your Residents STOP
Soliciting, Flyers, Mail &
Unwanted Telephone Calls

Flyers: suggest residents call the business listed on the flyer and ask them to NOT advertise in this manner. The more calls placed by residents to complain, the bigger the impact on the business advertising in this method. Be polite, but firm.

Unwanted Telephone Calls. According to Texas Law, a person who receives a telephone solicitation at a residence receives certain protection. A telephone solicitor must follow:

* Identify himself or herself by name.

* Identify the business on whose behalf
   he or she is calling.

* Identify the purpose of the call.

* Identify the telephone number at which
   the person, company or organization
making the call can be reached.

The Texas Attorney General investigates complaints relating to a violation of this law.
