Curious About What Our Legislators
Are Up To In Austin? You Are But A Mouse Click Away
Susan Hill
Curious about what our legislators are up to in Austin?
A speedy answer is just a mouse-click away on the Texas Legislature’s web
site, “Texas Legislature ON-LINE.” You can locate this timesaving
research tool on the Internet at: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us
Never has following proposed legislation been more easy!
In the old days - just two or three legislative sessions ago - you would
have to subscribe to an expensive reporting service to get less information
than you can now download free from your computer. Plus, the information
on Texas Legislature ON-LINE is updated daily and weekly as the session
progresses to its last gasp in May.
From Texas Legislature ONLINE’s home page, you can access
any bill filed by the House or Senate by way of bill number, subject, author,
committee or keyword. You do not have to know exactly what you are
looking for, only what you think might be there. When you find the
bill that interests you, you then can track it’s text as it passes through
or, more likely, stalls in committee.
Have something you would like to say to your representative
or senator about the bill? In many cases your legislator will also
have a webpage that you can link by going back to the ONLINE home page
and clicking on “Who Represents Me?”
More links on the home page take you to state agencies,
all the current laws and statutes the Texas Constitution, legislative district
maps, calendars, room schedules, the Capitol map, and etc. This is
a website that Texans should mark with a bookmark and visit often.
I know I will be watching it daily. |
