Did You KNOW?

Thanks to Northwest Park Homeowner’s Association, the 249 Storefront has several engravers that may be checked out  to engrave your driver’s license number on valuable items.

Of course, this takes a little time and effort but did you know that an item engraved with your driver’s license makes it all most impossible to “pawn” your possessions unless they have a driver’s license to match the number.   This is especially important for businesses and homeowners.

Call the 249 Storefront at 281-445-9892 to reserve an engraver.

Good Security is not a State of Mind  -  it takes hard work!

According to Texas EMS Magazine, November - December 1997, alcohol contributed to more than half of the traffic deaths in Texas in 1995 and 1996, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The 1996 statewide rate of alcohol related traffic fatalities, 53.2 percent, was three percent lower than the statewide 1995 rate, but still significantly higher than the national rate of 40.9 percent.

Harris County led the state with 252 such deaths, but Tarrant County, where Fort Worth is located, had a higher rate of alcohol related deaths, with 60.5 percent of its 129 traffic deaths related to alcohol.

In 1996 Texas had 1,991 alcohol related deaths, California had 1,606; Florida had 1,015; and New York had 523.

“Sixty percent of all speed-related fatal crashes are between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.”according to U.S. Department of Transportation.

Coordinators Help
Get the Job Done
In the August, 1997 NWSCA newsletter a copy of a letter written to Sheriff Thomas was included.  This letter, from thirty subdivision Security Coordinators, indicated concerns from residents attempting to reach the Sheriff’s Department.  Please read what we helped to accomplish:
Text from a letter received from Lisa Dodson, 911 Administrative Coordinator, H.C. Sheriff’s Department.  Letter dated: 9/30/97

The Communication Division currently consists of 82 Communication Officers (call takers), 16 supervisory and administrative positions for a total of 98 personnel.  Earlier this month, the Harris County Commissioner’s Court approved the allocation of additional Communication Officer’s positions.  We are looking forward to the increase in personnel to assist us in handling calls for assistance that have been increasing over the years.

Currently, we are receiving an average of 21,300  9-1-1 calls a month.  This is a 5% increase over last year.  There is also a significant monthly increase in the number of 9-1-1 calls from cellular phones.  In January of this year, we received 1680 cellular 9-1-1 calls that accounted for 8.5% of the total 9-1-1 call volume.
