The Final
Chapter
Ed Bailey
President NWSCA
-----
Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 20th - 1998.   At the beginning of our new year we will say good-bye to Ed as our President and as our neighbor.  Ed and his wife should be moving into their new home, located outside of District One,  by that time.
Ed has guided our organization, as President, with sound advice, timely articles and tremendous insight as we all learn the ins and outs of being a Security Coordinator.   Please, join me in wishing the very best to Ed and his family in their new home.   Ed has promised to stay in touch and lend a helping hand whenever needed.  Editor

I  have been working on a  project that I am sure all  of you have worked on from time to time.  That project is to review and evaluate the cost of having contracts with Harris County for the provision of deputies.  Last August, the back page of this newsletter showed a chart giving the cost per household per deputy per year.  If you have 500 homes in your subdivision, the cost per home per deputy is a approximately $60 per year, or $5 per month.  I think in 500 bunches because we have about 500 homes in our subdivision.

Every year or so, some people in our subdivision begin to feel comfortable with the crime situation and forget what the statistics were before we had deputies.  They want to discuss cutting back

on the deputy’s contract to save some money.  If they cut one deputy, a major part of their  home protection, they will save about the cost of one half of a newspaper subscription or what it costs to eat one hamburger, fries, and a drink per month.  I pay the Harris County Hospital District, where I never go, at least twice what it cost me for  Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies for our subdivision.
It just does not make sense to drop this voluntary program when it provides so much more for the dollar then do some of the “enforced” programs, or some that simply add waste to my waist.
When you look at what you get, comparing benefits to cost, I think the Sheriff’s Department Contract Deputy Program is a tremendous value.
Can  You Help US ?

Security Coordinators, please publish this number so your residents can help support the 249 Storefront  as we go into the next year.
