| It is Hard To Believe,
But . . This is one of those stories! The fact this story had no serious consequences is just short of a miracle - all the ingredients were there for tragedy. One evening a couple was going out to dinner and a movie. A neighborhood teenage boy was hired to baby-sit their grade school age son. The couple left as the young son and baby-sitter settled down for a few movies. During the evening two people entered the home through the back
door wearing ski masks and dressed in camouflage clothing with guns
in hand. They proceeded to point a gun on the child and
take him upstairs to his bedroom while they rummaged through his room.
The young child was left on the floor of his room and was told not
to move.

After questioning, the names of the two hooded
pretend burglars were identified with knowledge from the baby-sitter
who said he recognized his friends as this event unfolded.
This story really had no true ending. Parents of the boys were each notified and took whatever action they found appropriate in their son’s case. According to the boys involved this was a joke and was never intended to do any harm. However, in today’s world with many people fearful, these “playful” boys could have faced many serious consequences if they had been seen by other neighbors or law enforcement. Had one of these boys been shot with his toy gun in hand, camouflage clothing, and time of night, we would'vd been reading this on the front page of the newspaper. The story would have read a little differently then this version. |
