Framingham Heart Study
Data from the 50 year-long Framingham Heart Study shows that about
one-third of women and half of men age 40 or younger will develop
coronary heart disease in their lifetimes. The study showed that
the risk of developing heart disease for people over 70 who had not previously
had heart disease was one in three for men and one in four for women.
Approximately 500,000 Americans die every year from coronary heart
disease, the leading cause of death and disability in the Western world.
The Framingham Heart Study is a 50 year examination of more than 7,000
volunteers in Framingham, Massachusetts.
