Crime Analyst Positions Created!
Major G. Sturgis

Sheriff Tommy Thomas, working with Commissioner’s Court has recently created four new Crime Analysis positions.  With our in-car computers,  the Sheriff’s Deputies will be able to enter crime reports directly into the computerized on-line Offense Report System (COLORS). This data will be available to recognize trouble spots in a more timely manner.  Plus, this system will provide valuable and useful information for staffing, resource allocations, and targeted enforcement decisions.

Included in the plan is to do local citizen crime information bulletins advising neighborhoods, business districts or other areas of crimes that are occurring but also crime prevention information on protecting yourself and your property from the particular type of criminal activity.

We have increased the number of our Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) instructors to a total of twenty-eight.  This successful program for women teaches skills in escaping/surviving a physical attack.  It has proven to be the single most popular program offered by Sheriff Thomas.  Please contact your Store Front to find out how to register for this free course.

Sheriff Thomas is committed to providing the best possible law enforcement services to the citizens of Harris County.  The two programs mentioned are examples of that effort.  Another is our Sheriff’s Interaction Group (S.I.G.) meetings.  The purpose of these meetings is to bring departmental senior staff together with our citizens for discussions of law enforcement issues that impact the community.  At the conclusion of the S.I.G. meeting we plan to address any problems discussed, along with a time table for completion.  Included will be a method for providing feedback to the parties so that progress can be checked, adjustments made as needed and everyone kept up-to-date.  We want this to be a positive useful system for improving the quality of life in your neighborhood.

Additionally, S.I.G. meetings provide an informative program, the subject of which is normally requested by S.I.G. attendees.  Everyone is welcome to come and express their concerns.  This is an excellent forum in which law enforcement and citizens work together to make things better.
